Assemblies

Assemblies at Rotherfield

At Rotherfield, assemblies are an important part of school life. They offer dedicated time for children to come together, learn from one another and celebrate the values that shape who we are as a school.

Rooted in our Growth Learning Collective principles and aligned with our wider curriculum aims, our assembly programme supports children’s personal development, oracy, confidence and sense of belonging. Across the week, children experience a blend of celebrations, curriculum-linked learning and opportunities to reflect on the wider world.

Weekly Assembly Schedule for Year 1 - 6

Values, Themes & Rights Respecting Assembly: Every week, children take part in assemblies that explore our school values alongside themes from UNICEF’s Rights Respecting Schools programme. Using stories, real-life examples and current events, pupils learn about key rights such as the right to learn, be safe and be heard and the responsibilities that accompany them. These sessions are delivered in age-appropriate phase groups, helping children reflect on fairness, inclusion and how they can uphold the rights of others. Through this, pupils deepen their understanding of themselves, their community and their role as global citizens.

Singing Assembly: Our weekly singing assembly brings joy, energy and togetherness. Led by our specialist music lead, pupils learn new songs from a wide range of cultures and traditions, developing musicianship, confidence and collective pride in performing as a school.

Class Assemblies: Across the year, every class presents an assembly to the school community and to their families. These assemblies are a highlight of the week; children share their learning, perform and speak proudly about what they have achieved. They are a wonderful celebration of curriculum knowledge, creativity and oracy.

Celebration Assembly: At the end of the week, we bring children together to celebrate effort, progress and personal successes. Certificates, reading awards, attendance celebrations and class recognitions shine a spotlight on children’s achievements and reinforce our belief that success takes many forms.

Assemblies at Rotherfield are a joyful and purposeful part of school life. They help shape confident, thoughtful and compassionate young people who are ready to contribute positively to their community and the world around them.
