Teaching & Learning at the Growth Learning Collective (GLC)
At Newington Green and Rotherfield, our teaching is driven by the belief that every child can thrive when teaching is ambitious, inclusive and rooted in strong relationships. Our Teaching & Learning Policy sets out a shared approach that ensures all pupils receive an excellent education, regardless of their starting points.
Our Intent
Across the federation, we want every child to flourish academically, socially and emotionally. Our curriculum is broad, diverse and knowledge-rich, with a strong focus on essential skills, high expectations and nurturing the whole child.
Across both schools, our intent is to provide:
- A broad, diverse curriculum enriched with meaningful experiences beyond the classroom.
- High academic outcomes for all, with a strong focus on fundamental knowledge and skills.
- A nurturing ethos, where pupils are known, valued and supported to reach their full potential.
- An inclusive learning environment, where adaptive teaching removes barriers so all children—including those with SEND—can succeed.
Our Implementation
Great teaching is the foundation of our success. Across both schools, teachers use evidence-based strategies, including Rosenshine’s Principles, to break learning into small steps, model thinking, check understanding and revisit key knowledge. Classrooms are calm, purposeful and built on strong routines and positive relationships.
We are proudly inclusive: teachers use adaptive teaching, visual supports and targeted interventions to ensure every child, including those with SEND, can access and succeed within the full curriculum. Staff benefit from regular coaching, professional development and high-quality planning support.
Our Impact
We measure our success through how well pupils know, understand and apply what they learn.
Our approach leads to pupils who:
- make strong academic progress
- show pride, effort and independence in their work
- behave exceptionally well and engage positively in lessons
- remember more over time through regular review and practice
Impact is monitored through learning walks, book reviews, pupil voice and termly assessment cycles, ensuring teaching remains high quality across the federation.
Parents can be confident that every child in our federation is supported to grow academically and personally, within a nurturing community that champions excellence and celebrates every success.
